Category A

  • unrestricted motorcycles with a power output over 35 kW (minimum age 24 under direct access, or 21 under progressive access)

THRUXTON PODIUM JOY FOR LINFOOT

Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot placed his Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade second on the podium in today’s first MCE British Superbike race at Thruxton in Hampshire.

Starting the race from fourth position Linfoot had moved into second when the race was red flagged in the early stages. The restarted 15-lap dash saw a battle with John Hopkins for the second place spot and by the seventh lap, Linfoot had moved into second where he eventually crossed the line, behind race winner Josh Brookes.

Race two saw the Honda rider start from pole after setting the fastest lap (1:15.106) in race one. A solid race from Linfoot, 27, saw him running in third place, but after a safety car session and a battle with Luke Mossey he crossed the line fifth.

Team-mate Jenny Tinmouth continued to progress finishing race two 22nd. Unfortunately in race one after posting her personal best time at Thruxton, the Cheshire-based rider crashed out of the running at Goodwood, thankfully unhurt.

It’s been a weekend of mixed emotions for the Honda squad after its third rider Jason O’Halloran was involved in an incident in Saturday’s qualifying, which resulted in him breaking his right femur and two bones in his left hand. The Australian is currently in hospital waiting for an operation to pin and plate his femur.

The team will now get to work preparing Linfoot and Tinmouth’s CBR machines as the championship heads to Honda’s home round at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire on 21-23 August.

"Race one was obviously mega; it was such a great feeling to be back on the podium and was a massive confidence boost. The CBR felt great and I really enjoyed riding it.

I was a little disappointed to finish race two in fifth place, I felt we were robbed under the safety car conditions, but I think anyone with a soft tyre would say that. From the start of the race I used my head to try and save the tyre and then started to catch Hopkins. But the car came out and bunched us up a little, which was a shame. I was loosing my rear grip on the last few laps and had to settle to fifth. It’s a positive position to finish in and we have another chunk of points now towards a place in the Showdown.

"Race one was really good and I enjoyed it, I also did a personal best lap time too, which I’m really chuffed with. I was unlucky to come off towards the end, I just got caught out with the bumps at Goodwood and lost the front end, luckily both me and the CBR slid so there wasn’t much damage for the guys to repair before race two.

Race two was OK, I’m doing more consistent lap times here than I have in the past so I have to look on the positives, even though I am disappointed for not being higher on the grid. But we have some positives to take with us and will try some things for the next round." -Jenny Tinmouth

"It’s been a mixed weekend for us here at Thruxton, we’re devastated for Jason with the injuries he sustained in qualifying yesterday. But he’s fit, he’s strong and I know he can bounce back from it. I just hope the surgery goes well and he’ll be back and fighting fit as soon as possible.

Dan made some great steps this weekend and found some pace trying some different settings, which has put him back in contention to be in the top-six for the Showdown. Clearly this is now our target and focus moving into the next two crucial rounds to make sure that we achieve this.

Jenny on the other hand, we’re making positive steps. We’re showing her there’s some continuity and development to move forward.
